NWSL Championship

Skylark and the National Women’s Soccer League collaborated to execute a series of impactful fan engagement activations ahead of the 2023 NWSL Championship match in San Diego. The activations were designed to expand the league’s footprint to key locations in San Diego while creating social friendly and shareable moments to help drive interest and tune-in for the match.

Skylark enlisted San Diego-based muralists Signe Ditona and Paul Jimenez of GroundFloor Murals to create a mural in Downtown San Diego that would drive engagement and awareness of the Championship match while showcasing the new Tiffany-designed trophy. Skylark collaborated with the NWSL Creative team to finalize the creative direction and ensure the new trophy was presented authentically.

The mural was located in a high-density area within walking distance to San Diego City Hall, the Civic Theater, Fifth Avenue, and several trolley lines. The location garnered nearly 100,000 weekly impressions according to Placer Labs data and more than 100,000 riders take the Trolley each day in San Diego.

Skylark also collaborated with renowned sand castle artist Robert Pavlacka to create a NWSL Championship sand castle at the iconic Hotel Del in Coronado, California. The mural featured the NWSL Championship logos and the San Diego skyline made in sand.

The Hotel Del is on the national register of historic places and consistently features on imagery, promotional materials and broadcasts related to San Diego and this location received 30,000 weekly visitors.

The activations created shareable moments for NWSL supporters and helped reinforce that the NWSL Championship match was a premier destination for North American soccer fans.
